Dopamine Décor — How Colour Can Lift Your Mood at Home

Your home should make you feel something — calm, happy, inspired. But life gets busy, and spaces around us can start to feel a little flat. I found that coming home, after a chaotic day of work, school and daycare drop off, didn't immediately make me feel at ease. Sometimes I will start immediately cleaning, or cooking dinner, strangely staring into the white spaces that are around me. I started searching, saving, creating wish lists of home decor that made me feel good. Things that I wanted to have in my home. That’s where dopamine décor comes in.

What Is Dopamine Décor?
Dopamine décor is all about using colour and playful design to spark happiness in your everyday surroundings. It’s not clutter (those with young children know what i'm referring to) or chaos — it’s adding small pieces that make you smile. Think of it as colour therapy for your home. There is a sense of dual purpose, yes it may look nice, eye catching and fun but the colours we see also affect the way we feel.

Why Colour Works:
Colour has a direct link to mood. Warm tones like pinks, corals, and oranges bring energy and optimism; cool blues and greens invite calm. Pops of yellow or lilac can instantly turn a dull corner into something that feels alive again. Colours evoke emotion, they help us to connect to the present without feeling overwhelmed.

Whats my take on it all?
At Treaties, I believe in small colourful moments — like a handmade magnet that makes your fridge feel fun again, or a physically presence demanding DIY art kit that encourages creativity. You don’t need to redecorate your entire home to feel good — just one joyful swap can make all the difference. I want to reach people that are constantly busy, not just at work, but busy in their minds. I want to encourage them to select pieces, bring colour and a bit of light heartedness into their space to challenge the idea that colour can really help to turn your day around. Even in the most everyday spaces.

Next time you’re craving a reset, start small. When we were kids how many of us would change our bed from Wall A to Wall B and genuinely believe all was right in the world again? Think of that similar analogy. Add colour where you spend your time — your kitchen, your desk, your walls. Let those pops of dopamine remind you that joy doesn’t have to be loud — it just has to be yours.
